Treetop Walkway and Play Area

Wow!

Our treetop walkway and play area is finished and looking flash!  Massive thanks to Mark Newdick for his vision and expertise and Cal and the team at Nice Pozi for their building work. We are very lucky!

Performance at Te Papa

Our kapa haka performance group opened a hui at Te Papa on Tuesday and were amazing!

This was from the organiser (thanks Gwyneth!):

“Thank you again for making it possible for the Ridgway tamariki to come and perform waiata for the Citizen Advice Bureau hui.We are always working on how we can improve our tikanga and this helped us take another step on this journey. As our organisation is so largely volunteer based with people who work tirelessly for the community, it was so nice for everyone experiencing this beautiful and meaningful performance. It meant so much to so many people there. The students of Te Kura o Tawatawa have helped us to live our Mauri Manaia kaupapa and have challenged us to do more.

Patrica Pera, our whakapapa Māori representative who introduced the kids during the mihi whakatau, told me afterwards that she was impressed with the pronunciation of the students te reo Māori within the waiata, how well they sung and performed, and that she could see future kapa haka leaders in the group. Katy told me that she noticed several people crying while they were singing. I had so many comments afterwards about how special it was.”

Kapa haka at the Brooklyn Twilight Festival tomorrow

Many of these students (and some younger ones too) will be performing tomorrow at the opening of the Brooklyn Twilight Festival. The stage will be down the end of Harrison Street.  They perform at 3.30 (but need to be by the stage at 3pm) so come along and be impressed!
