Moveathon - Wednesday 30 June

This year, we are running a Moveathon as a fundraiser for the tree top walkway and adventure playground on the bank on in the morning of Wednesday 30 June. Sponsorship cards went home this week, please encourage your child to collect pledges. Children challenge themselves to complete a number of laps of the field. They set their own goals and can choose to complete the loops in any way they like - for example run, walk, hop, skip, dance! Online payments are welcome - please put 'MOVE' and the sponsored child's name in the reference fields - bank account 12 3141 0104464 00.

Please return the completed form and all money collected to the school office by Friday 2 July. Ask the office if you need an additional sponsorship form. There are prizes for biggest distance travelled, most raised, and best dressed!

Ridgway Parents Connect - RPC @ VBC

One of our fabulous parents has worked with VBC to organise a venue for monthly get togethers for our Ridgway parents (sorry, not for children). This will be held upstairs at the Vogelmorn Bowling Club from 5-9pm. This is a chance to meet other parents, debrief, de-stress, unwind and have fun! Damascus will supply a light menu and drinks will be available from the bar. Please bring a gold coin koha for venue hire. The first date for this is Friday 25 June. Please get in touch with Elizabeth Clement with any questions on elizabethclement454@gmail.com.

Weekly catch up with Kathryn and Sarah

Just a reminder that you can catch us at VBC each Friday morning from 9.15 for a chat. It's a good opportunity to have any questions answered that you might have.

Early nights

We are noticing very sleepy children as we head into the second part of Term 2. It's particularly tough at this time of year when it feels like it's dark a lot of the time. Bring on the shortest day... but in the meantime please make sure your child is getting plenty of sleep!

Notices coming via the app

We are beginning to push out the majority of our notices via the app. From Term 3 it is our plan to have all our messages going out this way. Thanks to everyone for getting on board with the app - there are only a few families yet to sign up!

Mushrooms on the field

We have had a few tense moments lately with children reporting that they have been eating the mushrooms that are growing on the field. As we aren't experts in all things fungi, we would appreciate you talking to your children about not picking and eating random mushrooms. We have spoken to them at school about this too.

Safety on the way to and from school

As you may have seen, a child from SWIS was approached by someone on their way to school yesterday. The police recommendations for keeping safe can be found here. At school, we are reinforcing the message of: walk home with a friend or group, make sure your parents know where you are (for example don't decide to go to someone's house without first communicating with both sets of parents) and if you see something that doesn't feel right, tell an adult.

Community Notices

Pyjama Appeal

Community support for the Wellington Hospitals Foundation's annual Pyjama Appeal has always been incredible and makes a huge difference to our tamariki, rangatahi and whānau. Please donate a pair of NEW, size 1-16 flannelette pyjamas or thermals. Due to the risk of infection, only NEW pyjamas can be accepted. Or make a donation online at www.whf.org.nz and Wellington Hospitals Foundation will buy a pair on your behalf.

Yoga - drama, yoga, songs and mindfulness

These sessions are designed to improve concentration and listening skills, create focused time for meaningful reflection and mindfulness, teach strategies to deal with emotions, create strong, flexible and healthy bodies, promote empathy and confidence, and work on collaboration skills.
