Term 1, Week 5, 2020 (Monday 2nd March 2020)

He mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa - warm greetings to all.

Upcoming Fair - who else can help?

We have had loads of people offer their time (yay - thank you all!) but we do still need some more volunteers! You can help out on a stall for an hour which will mean no one has to do the whole three hours and everyone gets a chance to wander around and enjoy themselves. We also need parents to help with the setup and the clear up after the fair (including collecting the trestle tables from the Brooklyn Community Centre and the Vogelmorn Bowling Club and collecting rubbish and recycling bins that we are borrowing). Please email sarah@ridgway.school.nz if you are able to help out! If you're new to the school it's a great chance to meet other parents.

Bring your donations to school!

Please bring your quality used toys, clothes and books to the office during school hours (rather than across the road as initially requested). You are welcome to bring them in any time from now until the fair.

Jars of Fun - keep 'em coming

These are really fun to make and very popular at the fair. You get a jar and fill it with all sorts of fun things and bring it to the office. We will have them on display in the office window and will run a small competition for the coolest little jars!

Changes to behaviour descriptors

We record details about incidents that occur both in the classroom and out in the playground. Doing so helps us to identify problem areas that we need to work on and monitor improvements.

If we record a note about your child's behaviour we will let you know what happened and you'll be able to see that a note has been taken via the school portal. Parents have let us know that they don't like the descriptions of the behaviours that we've been using, so we have decided to change them. You can view all the descriptions that we use and possible changes here. Feedback to principal@ridgway.school.nz please.

COVID-19 (novel coronavirus)

We are following the Ministry of Education guidelines which can be found here. We are encouraging frequent hand washing and reminding children how to sneeze and cough in a hygienic way.

Nits

There are nits in some of the classes at the moment. Please check your child's hair and tie it up if it's long. There is more information on treatment here.
