Cross Country

We were very lucky with the weather yesterday to be able to hold the cross country. It was a bit touch and go there weather wise for a while. Classic Wellington. We had a great turn out from parents too!  Next stop for those super fast runners Year 4 and up is the Southern Zones competition which is on 8 June (postponement day 10 June). Thanks for the organisation Pam and a shout out to David Kettles from across the road (who won’t be reading this) for his support!

Dog treats!

Recently, children in Tui did Passion Projects. Some of you would have noticed the dog biscuits being sold at the gate after school yesterday.  This is what the group said… We thought we should do something about puppies and I thought of my pet puppy and how she likes food and that all dogs love treats.  We asked why don’t we make some dog biscuits? We formed a group and all made different types of dog food, like cupcakes and biscuits.  We found recipes on the internet and in cookbooks. We thought we wanted to sell them but we were confused so we asked Miss Clarke to help us plan it and then we started making them. We thought we could raise money for PAWS who rescue puppies.  We made $19 that we have already donated to PAWS. It was super fun and we would love to do it again, maybe for cats, or maybe making toys for pets.

Opening celebration for our new building

We are planning an opening celebration for our new building on the first day of Term 3, 25 July at 9am.  We will meet on the field and then walk up together to the new building.  There will be a blessing from the mana whenua, some waiata, a couple of speeches and then we will all walk into the new building.  Whānau are welcome to join us for this. Once the landscaping is finished and the whole school is completed, we will have a big community celebration for everyone.  However, the celebration for our building in July will be limited to current students and their whānau.  Hopefully, no matter what COVID throws at us (as the gift that keeps giving) we should be able to celebrate all together, outside, in February next year.
