Newsletter 30 June 2020

He mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa - warm greetings to all.

Phew! The teachers are very grateful to be at the end of what has been a very long term 2. No doubt your children are very pleased to have holidays approaching.

Proposed enrolment scheme

Ridgway School has been directed by the Ministry of Education to implement an enrolment scheme and is now consulting with our community on our proposed scheme. The proposed enrolment scheme can be viewed here and an interactive map showing the zone boundaries is also available for viewing. Members of our school community who wish to get more information are invited to meet with the principal on 22 July at 7pm at the school. Please RSVP to the school office if you plan to attend. The board will make a final decision on zone boundaries and scheme details after considering all feedback and the proposal will be submitted to the Secretary for Education in August.

Here is the latest report from the Board.

The end of staggered starts

We have been running staggered starts during Term 2. When Term 3 starts we will be returning to an 8.55 start and a 3pm finish across the school.

No access to the school over the holidays

Our new fence is being built over the holidays. The school playground will be closed as vehicles will be driving around the buildings and builders will be on site. The money for this fence comes from the amount raised at the school fair last year and a grant from The Vogelmorn Foundation.

Swimming begins in Term 3

Swimming begins in Term 3 for our whole school. Our Year 4 - 8 children will start this in the first week of Term 3 on Friday 24 July. Our Year 1 - 3 children will start in the second week on Tuesday (28 July). Our Year 1 - 5 children swim at Little Makos in Berhampore and the Year 6-8s swim at Karori Pool.

Senior school moving to the field

From the first day of Term 3 Kūkūpa and Kākā will be in the new classrooms on the field. The classrooms are looking lovely and being in brand new buildings will be a first for all of those children. Feel free to poke your head into the classes next term and have a look.

School lunches next term

Just a reminder that we are stopping Lunchonline for Term 3. Instead, the school is organising lunches to sell every Thursday. There will be a rotation of lunches that will include a sausage sizzle, cheese toasties, filled rolls, dumplings and hot dogs. The first week back we will be having a sausage sizzle and will send more information back when we are back for Term 3.
